Expose yourself to new cinematic experiences with GEOs foreign film
or classic film potlucks. Sit back and relax while you watch the art of cinema on the
big screen and munch goodies at the same time. Sound fun? It is!
Film potlucks are held after school in Room M-1 once a quarter
from 3pm to 6pm. Movies are selected and pre-screened by GEO officers to ensure
their "entertainment value." The films may come from the
golden era of Hollywood or any place in the world where movies are made.
Classic Films refer
to movies from the 1930's, 40's, or 50's. Big stars,
splashy musicals, Oscar winning performances and good clean
storylines. They're usually black and white movies,
low on special effects or violence and high on class.
Classic Films allow you to turn back the clock to give you insight
on the values and interests of America some 50+ years ago.
If it's a Foreign
Film, dont let the language barrier stop you. Even if a film is in a foreign language, it isnt hard to catch on to the plot and most of the movies come with English sub-titles. A lot about a culture can be learned by the movies they make.
Viewing these movies gives you a glimpse into a culture different from your own,
whether it's China, India, Italy, France or Germany. Know of a good foreign film?
We welcome suggestions!
Watching a film isnt the fun part, theres
the potluck, too. You need to bring some goodies to share with everybody in order to go to the foreign film potluck (thats why its called a foreign film potluck). Persons attending the foreign film potluck must bring food to share--it is mandatory. Persons not bringing food will not be admitted. Bring anything from chips, soda, cookies, and popcorn--anything edible would be great. Want to share your favorite food? The foreign film potluck is the place to do it.
So sit back and watch an interesting film with buddies while munching on yummy food and become cinema savvy. Its a nice way to spend an afternoon.
