Cultural Opportunities

What is a cultural opportunity???  Well, an opportunity to experience culture!  Still unclear?  Well, culture is many things.  According to the GEO Club advisor, Mr. Beeken, culture is “all learned behavior passed on from one generation to another by means of language or imitation.”  As vague as that sounds, think about it.  So culture could be everything from how people act, to how people paint pictures, to going to see how people cook.  Now that culture is clear, a GEO cultural opportunity could mean going to art museums, concert halls, or gardens; it could mean taking tours of historic areas and admiring the architecture; it could mean trying dining adventures at ethnic restaurants;  it could even mean watching classic movies, foreign films, or experiencing films in classic movie palaces.

Cultural opportunities are designed to get you to appreciate the diversity of our city, our country, or our world.   Why is this important?  Well, it helps round you out as a person.  For example, how could you live in Southern California and not know anything about its history?  Or of all that it has to offer?  Cultural opportunities can add a new dimension to our lives.

So go watch that strange French movie, explore the exhibits of a Modern Art museum, or eat that weird Chinese dish that smells funny.  Take a chance!  Cultural opportunities are a chance for you to get to know the world around you!
